As we age the cells in our body acquire mutations in their DNA. There are specific mutations occurring in our blood cells (termed clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential or CHIP) which are known to be associated with an increased risk of ill-health. This projects will utilise genetic and clinical data in the UK biobank to: (i) identify genetic and non-genetic risk factors for CHIP; (ii) identify long-term health consequences of CHIP. Such information will help inform: the management of individuals in who CHIP is identified; population based initiatives to reduce the incidence of cancer and cardiovascular disease; and further studies investigating the biological causes of CHIP.
