In this project, we are going to study whether having more than one disease (such as heart disease or diabetes) can impact one’s chances of developing other diseases in the future, like a stroke or dementia. We also want to understand if we can predict who will be more likely to get multiple chronic diseases in their lifetime. We will also study whether certain types of medications commonly used to treat chronic diseases are better than others to prevent the risk of getting increasing numbers of chronic diseases as people age. This project will last 3 years and we hope will identify new ways to treat chronic disease and improve public health.
