We regularly ask our participants to complete questionnaires to better capture lifestyle and health information, for example on chronic pain and mental health.

These questionnaires are sent to all of our participants for whom we have an email address (about 330,000), and are also accessible via the participant website. We also sometimes ask our participants to complete questionnaires on a touchscreen during their visits to one of our centres.

Questionnaire data at a glance

Diet

Some participants filled out a detailed questionnaire about what they ate in the last 24 hours during their first visit. On four occasions in 2011, we repeated this 24-hour food recall survey via online questionnaires.

Cognitive function

In 2014, participants completed a series of online puzzles and questions to assess cognitive function. A follow-up survey was conducted in 2021. Most of the memory tests were similar to the ones participants completed during their baseline visit.

Occupational history

In 2015, participants reported details of their work history over their lifetime.

Mental health

In 2016, we asked participants about their mental health and wellbeing. A follow-up survey is ongoing since 2022 (see below).

Digestive health

This questionnaire from 2018 aimed to find out why some people develop digestive problems and others do not.

In 2019, we asked participants about their experience with chronic pain. A follow-up survey has started in 2024 (see below)

Food preferences

In 2019, participants detailed their food preferences.
