Help evolve the systems that drive UK Biobank
Our rapidly growing Data and Technology team consists of over 30 colleagues working in a variety of roles including: Data and Software Engineering, Cloud, Security and other associated IT functions.
In addition to associated every facet of UK Biobank’s business, they also build and evolve the systems that drive the core value of UK Biobank: curating information from our participants and partners and making it available for research on our Research Analysis Platform to enable advances in global health.
We’re searching for talented technical individuals who want to make a difference to the world.
Key skills we look for
There are a wide range of roles in the Data and Technology team covering a broad set of skills. Some of these include:
- For Engineering – Java, Python, C#. We welcome other languages, and value the flexibility in working in multiple technologies.
- For Information Security – Risk management, Security Operations, Security Standards, Identity and Access Management and Zero Trust.
- For Infrastructure/Cloud – Windows Server, VMware, Cisco Networking, M365, Azure and AWS.
In addition, we partner closely with AWS. Our systems also handle large amounts of sensitive data, so Security is everyone’s responsibility.

My first six months at UK Biobank have been a whirlwind of learning. I’ve gained an appreciation for how UK Biobank supports vital medical research and impacts so many lives. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming and supportive. We’re continuously evolving our technology to better serve researchers and colleagues, and I’m excited for what the next six months will bring.
